Physical description
A nirion resembles an antelope or deer in physique. Despite their elegant and fragile appearance, they are soundly proportioned to live in their mountain homes and can climb ridges with ease.
These animals have long tails used for balance, and thick, woolly fur to protect them from the cold. Adult nirions have deer-like snouts and hooves, as well as two semi-thick 'horns' on their head that the fur trails onto. A nirion’s ears are known as ‘horns’ though they are not of a hard material. Instead they can be moved around and the tips can be curled to convey expression. These horns grow with age and can curl at the tips. The average height for a nirion is a metre tall at the shoulder (females of this species are also slightly smaller then the males), and the average weight is roughly 85kg. Nirions have clumps of feathers on their back legs as well as the end of their tails.
Baby nirions look very much like a small version of an adult. They have similar proportions, including the narrow legs, but overall have much more thick fur covering them to protect them against the cold of the mountains. The horns of nirion fawns are much shorter. As they age, the horns grow and curl at the tips.

ColourationBody colour examplesCorresponding leg coloursNirions are a brown-grey in colour, with darker brown limbs. These base colours can vary to some degree, from a more grey colour to a warmer brown. This colouring reflects their mountain homes. A nirion's face is always a lighter colour than the main body. This mask is typically a light peach colour, but some nirions have pale gold faces. The soft ear part of a nirion's horns is this lighter colour as well. The mask can take several shapes, and can be mixed with white ticking or blazes. Typically it covers the whole face, and in all circumstances surrounds the eyes, but it can be very distinctive, or more blended with the fur colour. The muzzle is not always coloured. The body markings of a nirion include a light peach or gold colour starting at the shoulders and fading towards the hips. Another marking that is always prominent is a light coloured ring around a niron's neck. This can cover the whole neck or be very thin. The hooves of a nirion are always a lighter colour than their legs and can display some striping. The horn tips are always a gold in colour, as are their tail tufts and hip feathers. These can be striped or flecked with other colours however. A nirion's eye colour is usually a gold, green or light brown. Some rare cases of blue eyes are possible. A nirion fawn resembles its parent to some degree in colouring, though it is a duller version so as not to stand out to predators. The face, neck and back markings grow into their fur as they enter adulthood, as do the gold colourings of their horns and feathers. Faded images mean that the marking or colour is rare for the species. Your character may not have too many rare markings.
